Amalgam removal
Amalgam removal
biological dentistry
What is amalgam and why can it be problematic?
Dental amalgam is a metal mixture. It consists of mercury and a silver-tin-copper alloy. The mercury can be released in the mouth and spread throughout the body. This is particularly the case if other metal fillings (such as gold) are present. The mercury is highly toxic and is potentially harmful to the nervous system and the intestines. If it damages the intestinal cell network, this can in turn promote absorption into other organs. The possible consequences range from digestive problems and fatigue to neurological complaints or joint and muscle problems.
In terms of bio-dentistry, amalgam removal therefore aims to stop or prophylactically prevent the possible negative effects of the material on the organism. The focus of this removal is the biological interaction of the various materials with the human body, especially mercury.

How does the removal
and elimination of amalgam work?
It is important that the body is professionally prepared for amalgam removal. This is done with the help of a special detoxification protocol, which we carry out with the product MerProtect. This contains targeted phytonutrients and biomolecules which, when taken two days before to four days after amalgam removal, are intended to promote detoxification of the body. This enables the body to absorb and excrete unwanted substances that cannot be eliminated despite protective measures.
We also rely on extensive protective measures during the actual removal of the amalgam so that our patients are also protected from the mercury vapor that is produced during this process. One of these protective measures is the so-called rubber dam, a rubber sheet that protects against fine amalgam chips or other fragments. We also use the Prophy Dent gold mask, which is designed to trap mercury vapors. This process is supported by the use of IQ Air room filters and the Clean-Up vacuum cleaner. The latter enables the direct and reliable extraction of mercury vapor and thus optimally rounds off the protective measures. As an option, we offer the supply of a high-dose vitamin C preparation, which can support the body’s own detoxification process.
The highest possible level of patient protection is also ensured during the technical amalgam removal procedures: To keep mercury vapors low, drilling is carried out very carefully at a low speed. The affected teeth are immediately treated with a high-quality filling material or a temporary restoration – depending on which option was previously agreed as the best solution for the situation in question.
